Sparked by the precision analytics available in the online retail world, today’s retailers are demanding a correspondingly complete and accurate picture of their brick and mortar stores. These retailers are now measuring shopper traffic in ways unimaginable five years ago, ranging from the number of shoppers that pass-by their location (vs. the number that enter) down to evaluating the effectiveness of individual interior displays to attract interest (dwell time) and generate transactions.
The good news for these retailers is that tremendous advances in video content analytic software has made it possible for them to obtain accurate traffic data for these different measurement areas at increasingly lower cost. However, there is a lack of clarity on the definition of data accuracy which has caused some unnecessary confusion among those seeking to implement, expand or upgrade traffic counting solutions.
