Head of Finance

Chitra Balasubramanian is Head of Finance at RetailNext, where she is responsible for overseeing the company’s overall financial operations including accounting, financial reporting and planning, with a focus on global financial strategy.

Chitra joined RetailNext in early 2011, where she chartered a team of data analysts, consulted with clients, and delivered useful data-based products that change the ways retailers sell to their consumers. In that role, she launched the Business Analytics services arm of RetailNext to help customers make the most of the data they receive from the company’s technology solutions. In that capacity, she worked with customers such as Procter and Gamble and Frito Lay to analyze the thousands of data points related to overall store performance, including daily traffic trends, fixture and display effectiveness, product engagement, and sales conversion.

Before joining RetailNext, Chitra worked at Blackhawk Network, where she was responsible for marketing analytics and product forecasting across more than fifty retail partners. In addition, she was instrumental in providing business decision support for the company’s strategic deals. Prior to that, she was a part of Barclays Capital’s Technology Investment Banking group, where she provided clients with strategic recommendations in corporate finance and business strategy.

Earlier in her career, Chitra was one of the first subject-matter experts on financial auditing for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Center for Advanced Research division, an innovation think tank responsible for the design and development of advanced technologies that solve previously unsolvable problems for the firm’s core practice areas. As part of her role, she worked closely with a team of veteran technologists to design new tools that the company of over 180,000 employees would go on to use to streamline its business.

Chitra is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from UCLA.
