America's small businesses are small in name only, and retail employers now 50% comprised of small businesses.

Small RetailThis week, October 13-17, the National Retail Federation (NRF) is recognizing “Retail Jobs Week,” celebrating retailers and all their employees.  As an industry, retail is the largest private sector employer in the United States, supporting 42 million jobs and adding $2.6 trillion to the national economy.

A healthy retail sector is a healthy American economy.

But, while the numbers are big, not every retailer is big – according to SurePayroll, retail employers are now 50% comprised of small businesses.

In honor of retail, retail employers and employees, and small businesses everywhere, we thought we would share SurePayroll’s infographic, below. This Holiday season, remember to “shop small” with your local small business merchants as you do your shopping. American Express, a RetailNext shareholder and strategic partner, is once again promoting Small Business Saturday (#SmallBizSat) – November 29.
