Over the recently completed holiday shopping season, the retail industry realized positive overall sales growth, with early estimates coming in at 3.5-4 percent growth year-over-year. And, once again digital channels, particularly through mobile touchpoints, led the charge with their exponential growth.
The holiday season offered up just one more proof point that it’s now absolutely critical for retailers to converge their digital and physical touchpoints to provide a single, seamless and branded shopping experience.
Digital touchpoints, of course, are huge, but they’re not without opportunities. Not only does the channel lend itself to margin-killing price comparison shopping, but the reverse supply chain caused by high levels of returns and exchanges affects inventory management and sometimes crushes cash flow.
