Shelley E. Kohan is a Technical Fellow at RetailNext.

Shelley brings more than 25 years of experience in retail store operations and has worked at senior levels throughout the industry and across many functions, including general management, operations, merchandising, buying, and human resources. As Vice President of Retail Consulting, Shelley collaborates with a number of brand-name retailers to develop optimized strategies that increase sales, reduce costs, benchmark performance, and better align resources to achieve key performance objectives. She is responsible for developing business strategies customized for clients and provides analysis support to help them understand store performance metrics and gain actionable insights. Shelley’s contribution to RetailNext is centered on her unique ability to fully understand the retail environment coupled with an extensive background in service excellence.

In addition to her role at RetailNext, Shelley serves as a faculty member at the Fashion Institute of Technology of the State University of New York in the Fashion Merchandise Management Program at the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology. Her courses include emphasis on big data applied in the retail store environment, retail management, marketing strategies, leadership development, store operations, and fashion business practices. Shelley is consistently recognized by the Dean for teaching excellence.

Prior to joining RetailNext, Shelley held senior management positions at prestigious retailers including Executive Vice President and Vice President US Development at Space NK, Vice President of Store Operations at Saks Fifth Avenue, Operating Vice President at Bloomingdale’s, and Director of Logistics and Operations at Macyʼs. In 2009, Shelley created her own consulting business, where she helped start-up companies with market growth, retail store operations, human resources, and supply chain efficiencies.

Shelley is a featured spokesperson and retail expert. She has appeared in the New York Times, Women’s Wear Daily, Reuters, Chain Store Age, Retail Information Systems, and other trade publications. Shelley conducts Webinars and has been appointed workshop leader at conferences focused on in-store analytics and retail trends.

Shelley earned a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Penn State University, a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco and an associate’s degree in Merchandising and Buying from the Fashion Institute of Technology at the State University of New York.
